Thanks to Potato-otaku’s relentless translation, Kaichou wa Maid-sama finally brings out the interesting details, after… 45 chapters, forty-five chapters!!! Well, this is assuming that ch46 brings us the goods, seeing as dear 45 left on a cliffhanger.

Dear Fujiwara Hiro, what were you thinking! You’ve tantalized us with this mysterious past of Usui since god knows when. If it weren’t for the fact our dear couple look so cute together I would have dropped this ages ago, and even then reading Kaichou felt almost like a guilty pleasure prior to this chapter. As someone on baka-updates manga put it, Kaichou is like smut without the smut. It really is a fitting description once you think outside the box and look past the usual meaning for the word smut. Most of Kaichou up to this point is pretty much about Misaki and Usui (who has been well established as a perfect guy) looking cute together as random hurdles gets thrown into their not-even-established relationship, leading to various shenanigans like that crazy butler contest. Also, I swear the amount of tsun-tsun and dere-dere blushing Misaki does tallies more than the number of pages. If it weren’t for dear heroine’s independent and tsundere personality, this series would devolve into real smut almost immediately (of course, then it wouldn’t be Kaichou anymore).

Okay, I can grasp my head on why they do this. But milking the product before it even broadens out its initial storyline is just stupid in my opinion, especially when Kaichou is Fujiwara-sensei’s first serialized manga.

At least Kaichou is finally about to start beating its almost-exact-double: Special A. Why? Because something is about to actually happen!!! Ugh, that just sounds sad…

Shoujo manga why do you do this to me (TT_TT )

I really hope we are on the cusp of a revelation, if only for my sanity. Maybe I’ll console myself with reading the update of Strobe Edge, or re-read some Dengenki Daisy. Kurosaki’s expressions are always enough to make me laugh.
