So Honya finally started the second round to the anime family project. Yay! It also means it’s time for me to publish this post that I started two months ago. About time. There’s been quite a few changes in my anime family, reflecting upon how my views have shifted over the two years since Honya’s first anime family project startup. But I think this time, a few more of the characters have entered the frame to settle down permanently.

The bestest true end I wish for

The anime family project is, in a nutshell, a selection of characters from anime, manga, visnovs, et cetera, that are assigned to roles in your ideal fictional family.

First, I start with…

Persona: Rita Mordio (Tales of Vesperia)

Rationale: Serious, shy, and socially awkward, Rita is a mild tsundere whom I consider my persona because she is in many ways a spitting image of myself: she’s normally focused on her work and projects and hates to be bothered by trivial business; she responds to silly and/or shameless behavior by calling them out on stupidity, even if she likes some of them; she’s very vocal about many of her social and moral beliefs and isn’t afraid of voicing them bluntly; she cares deeply for her friends and family yet either doesn’t know how to show it, or is simply too shy to; she’s extremely loyal towards those same people and will help them no matter what it takes; she has a quick temper that boils quickly, yet she’s very forgiving towards others (Judith) who are sincere and apologetic about their mistakes; I could go on for a while. Okay, I’m not quite as nice as she is on some of those. But really, I’ve never been able to predict a character’s response to each and every moment so well, and all I had to do was apply my own feelings. I only wish I had her genius brains and magic proficiency: people consider me smart at my work, but nothing like a prodigy, and I only wished I could use “fireball” as one of my responses.

My Family Growing Up

Otou-sama: Emiya Kiritsugu (Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Zero)

Rationale: As Fate/stay night and Fate/zero presents their opposing views, we learn about both Emiya Kiritsugu the father, and Emiya Kiritusu the Mage Assassin Eternal Badass. Despite his shady past of being a ruthless trained killer who specialized at taking out mages using every method at disposal, Kiritsugu has a pure and remarkable, if not twisted, sense of justice that even Saber had to admit “if there was a Master in the war worthy of obtaining the Holy Grail, then he would undoubtedly be Emiya Kiritsugu”. In my opinion, Kiritsugu was the truest of heroes in the Nasuverse, and maybe the entire animeverse, as not only did he desire to save the world (through the least black-and-white means imaginable), he was absolutely selfless, willing to take up all of its sins, carry all of the evils in the world, in his path for a holy grail revolution, for a better future with his beloved family. Yet despite this, Kiritsugu protected both the well-being and innocence of his family, starting with Irisviel and ending with Emiya Shirou. He would hide his bloodstained past and become the model father for his kids: just, caring, and compassionate, yet serious and not pampering, steering his offspring into the correct direction while sheltering them from the darker secrets of the world that they do not need. However, after the tragic events of Fate/Zero, Kiritsugu needs someone to revive his desire for life and happiness…

Yes Kiritsugu will teach me magic. I’ll be succeeding his magecraft seal so I can cast Tidal Wave even faster…

Honorable Mention: Maes Hughes (Fullmetal Alchemist), I love you to death for your happiest-pappa-in-the-world attitude and the tender loving care you give your family, but if I was your daughter I’d be spoilt rotten.

.

Okaa-san: Otomiya Haine (Shinshi Doumei Cross)

Rationale: Optimistic and strong-willed, Haine has the perfect combination of cuteness, compassion, initiative, and resolve for a heroine; an ideal candidate for pulling dear Otou-san back to humanity and give him the meaning to live his remaining life with a loving family. Haine had already shown capable ability as an older sister during the events of Shinkuro. As a mother, I think many of her finer traits would make her a model parent: she’s strong but not unnecessarily stubborn; she’s warm and caring towards the people around her, yet isn’t plagued by indecisiveness when misfortune strikes; she’s remarkably selfless when it comes to the problems of her close friends and family; et cetera. Furthermore, after the family issues she had to overcome during her childhood, she would be exceptionally strong and capable in dealing with any family troubles of mine (which might be needed with 6 kids).

Honorable Mentions: Minase Akiko-san (Kanon) you’re also like Hughes and would be the perfect mother in almost every way, except one: you’re too soft.

.

Onii-sama (oldest): Shannon Casull (Scrapped Princess)

Rationale: Over the years I’ve seen so many good big-brothers in anime and all of them have touched me at one point or another; but when I look back to the moment when Shannon-nii made his stand against the entire world for the sake of his sister in Scrapped Princess EP20 (4:29 here), I can firmly claim that none of the others even holds a candle against him. Shannon has all the traits of a good older brother to look up to: caring and protective of his siblings, selfless and devoted to his family, cool and dependable in a pinch, always reliable for help, skilled in any fight, and canny in intellect. He also comes with the fully huggable Zephiris that doubles up as an Earth-saving Dragoon assault craft.

Although, when Shannon isn’t doing his assigned housework, he’ll be lazing around behind some tree in the backyard, possibly even lazy-stalking Kud or Italia (always napping in a tree near where they are).

Honorable Mentions: Lelouch and Suzaku (Code Geass) were really close; they also belong together and made the best pair. But even aside from his half-related siblings, Lulu ended up putting the World before his family, abandoning Nunnally and eliminating his parents. Damn.

.

Onii-san (second, adopted): Emiya Shirou (Fate/stay night)

Rationale: What can I say Shirou? Your badassery truly inspires me, and your actions in Heaven’s Feel (definitely true end) is a perfect model example of the selfless choices we must make for the sake of our beloved’s happiness. Even before and after those fateful 15 days, your disciplined day to day life is a paragon role model for dedication and hard work — two of life’s most important aspects that would surely wear off on me and my other siblings. Lastly, I want to savor and learn from your post-doctorate mastery of cooking, as just the descriptions of those dishes make me mouthwater at times.

Unlike Shannon, the workaholic Shirou would be taking care of like half the housework, and enjoying tea with us…

Honorable Mention: Morita Kenichi (Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo) is another GAR figure that I would love to have as an older brother… well, except for the fact he was a real wuss as a little kid before unfortunate events sparked his manliness.

.

Onee-sama: Higuchi Ririko (Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo)

Rationale: Ririko might have some strange tastes, but she was still a good older sister who put her family above all else, endlessly pushing Morita Kenichi to become the man that he should be. I also find her carefree attitude refreshingly funny, and her manipulative actions insidiously hilarious. While I would likely be annoyed by her “don’t mind, Watashi” response, I also admire that zero-pressure my-pace attitude behind it. Also, I can blame my odd personality on her, seeing as it would really probably be her fault. Besides, with her attitude, who knows, maybe Otouto Ita-chan might actually grow up to be just like grandpa Rome (although I doubt it).

Ririko onee-sama would probably be spending all her time bullying the three younger siblings of the family…

Honorable Mention: Tokiha Mai (Mai HiME) has proven to be a remarkable older sister to her sickly little brother, which was pretty impressive given the other issues in her life at the time (love, poverty, superpowers, battle royale). But she simply lacks the charm, not to mention she’d be a constant source of worry for dear Okaa-san.

.

Otouto: Italy/Chibitalia (Axis Powers Hetalia)

Rationale: Ita-chan is so cute and adorable and fun to tease and cute and— ahem. I think that covers it pretty simply. Furthermore, Holy Roman Empire x Chibitalia is one of my favorite pairings, so as onee-san I’ll support their relationship the whole way!

Honorable Mentions: America (Axis Powers Hetalia) is so cute when he’s little; but such an ass when he grows up!

.

Imouto: Kudryavka Noumi (Little Busters!)

Rationale: Cute, respectful, and loving, with a somewhat vulnerable appearance, she fills all the roles of an imouto with perfection, her very sight sparking an irresistible urge to hug and protect her. Her optimistic and carefree personality will always bring light to my day and fill me with energy, and her hardworking attitude will become a great source of pride and joy for everyone in the family.

Honorable Mention: Poor Aoi Nagisa (Strawberry Panic) just lacks Kud’s ultra-huggability, not to mention I’d be too worried trying to keep her away from that Shizuma woman and pair up with Tamao instead.

.

.

My Own Family

Waifu: Nia Teppelin (Gurren Lagann)

Rationale: Nia is perfect; that’s pretty much what I think. I both admire and love every bit of her character: her pure innocence and sheltered view; her curiosity and desire to understand others; her benevolence that is every bit as saintly as Rita’s beloved Estelle; her sincerity that knows no lies; her unyielding faith and resolute determination in her partner; her hardworking attitude and wish to help out; her strange manner of speech that’s filled with warmth. Talk about a character that’s the epitome of loyalty, resolve, compassion, and sincerity. Her mere presence makes me mellow and filled to the bring with happiness and confidence, imparting to me a desire to hug and love and protect her. Oh, and I would totally eat her cooking and love it!

Honorable Mention: Nono (Top wo Nerae! 2 / Diebuster). Technically I have trouble treating Nia and Nono as separate people in my mind. The voices aren’t helping. There’s also Estelle (Tales of Vesperia) since she also has the innocence, compassion, the hard-work-and-guts attitude, and trusts in her friends; furthermore, she and Rita are OTP.

.

Musume (older twins): Shirakawa Kotori (Da Capo), Shirakawa Nanaka (Da Capo II)

Kotori (left), Nanaka (right)

Kotori (left), Nanaka (right)

Rationale: As the Chinese claim goes: while sons carry on the family business and dreams, it’s the daughters who bring great joy to the parents (at least before they marry and leave). Both the Shirakawas have all the best personality traits of an ideal daughter, being selfless, considerate, agreeable, and modest. Also, both are exemplary characters of what I consider the three most virtuous traits in life: loyalty/devotion, resolve, and compassion. Lastly, they are blessed with an abundance of the three traits essential to success in life: intelligence, cunning, and charisma. With all these traits combined and Nia setting a good example, I believe they’d grow up to be the pride of any family.

Kotori and Nanaka would be twins in my anime family, given their similarities and the fact they’re spiritual successors within the Da Capo franchise. Kotori is the older one who helps out around the family and keeps everyone happy. While Nanaka is the mischievous but benevolent one whose antics will keep everyone laughing without ever being annoyed; not to mention her band performances will become another source of our proud family activities.

.

Musume (younger): Shiina Mafuyu (Seitokai no Ichizon)

Rationale: “My hobbies are games soft, games hard, boys soft, boys hard” pretty much covers it. Mafuyu is the carefree gamer/blogger/artist otaku that I sometimes wish I was. Furthermore, with two responsible older sisters to watch over her, I don’t have to be as excessively worried over her.

Mafuyu will be busy playing games and fantasizing about the neighborhood boys, then writing yaoi mangas and enthusiastically showing them to us.

.

Pet: Potato (AIR)

Rationale: IT’S TOO CUTE!!! I melted upon seeing it for the first time. I hug the softest things near me whenever I see it. My eyes are drawn to wherever it is. It’s also my favorite character from AIR (Kano is my second, thanks to it).

.

Time to see who else links back to Honya’s page and what their families all look like…

Maes is an awesome daddy. Though Mustang would probably be closer to my own father since he’s such a huge damn flirt, which might be the reason why I am one of seven children. Wait, yeah seven. I always have to do a mental count, because I’m never sure if that is the correct number.

I only grew up with one of my siblings and I’ve never met the others (long story) though I do probably speak to my older brother more than my full blood brother more ffrequently since he’s on chat more often.

My brother would probably most resemble Naruto Uzamaki. He’s a total brat, always getting himself into scrapes, yet seems to have the luck of the Irish and always comes out on top.

Though in school that was mainly because all the hardass guys were my friends and so you mess with my brother you mess with me and my boys always had my back.

I once called out the Headmaster of my school for being mean to my brother over his uniform when it was beyond his control. I expected detention for that, but the next morning in assembly the Headmaster instead acknowledged me by name and gave me a respectful nod of the head as he strode to the front.

I’m terrible at standing up for myself, but heaven help those who heart my loved ones! I wonder what kind of sister that makes me?

Haha, with that kind of detail in thought, you should definitely think about maybe writing up an anime-family of your own, reality or ideal. Although maybe that’ll be bit awkward with your hubby?

It makes you an awesome sister. Onee-sama is indeed onee-same (=D)
